Endometriosis Treatment Should Fit Your Life

Pain relief matters. So do your overall health, comfort and quality of life.

When you live with endometriosis, finding treatment can involve a lot of trial and error. A medication that helps one person may leave another struggling with side effects or still searching for relief.

A 2026 review by Ferrero and colleagues explores how hormonal treatments can balance symptom relief with safety. Its central message: the strongest estrogen suppression is not necessarily the best approach for everyone.

What does the review tell us?

The authors describe combined hormonal contraceptives and progestins as common first treatment options. They can help manage endometriosis pain, although individual responses vary.

GnRH agonists and antagonists lower estrogen more substantially and may help when initial treatments have not provided enough relief. However, low estrogen can bring side effects and concerns about bone health. The review argues for tailoring treatment instead of assuming everyone needs maximum suppression.

This is a review of existing research, rather than a new clinical trial. It supports a more individual approach; it does not establish one ideal medication or estrogen level for every patient.

Your experience belongs in the conversation

At Endometriosis Canada, we believe a treatment plan should make room for how you actually feel.

Can you manage school or work? Are you sleeping? Do side effects interfere with your relationships or daily activities? Do you feel comfortable raising concerns?

These questions deserve attention alongside your pain symptoms. You should feel supported when something is not working—not pressured to silently push through.

Questions to bring to your appointment

• What are we hoping this treatment will improve?

• What side effects should I report?

• How will we monitor my health during treatment?

• When will we review whether it is helping?

• What other options could we discuss if it does not suit me?

Care that listens

Our hope is for care that respects each person’s needs, goals and choices. Patients deserve clear explanations, ongoing support and the opportunity to revisit a treatment plan.

Living with endometriosis is hard enough. Feeling heard should be part of your care.
